Tom Allen Confirmed as BASE Awards Host

London, February 12th, 2020: The British Association for Screen Entertainment has today confirmed that multi-talented comedian, presenter and writer, Tom Allen, will be taking the reins as the host of this year’s BASE Awards ceremony as it debuts at Camden’s Roundhouse on Thursday, 4th June, 2020.

 As well as being a stalwart, award-winning face on the UK stand-up scene, Allen will also be familiar to many for his acerbic input as host on shows like The Apprentice: You’re Fired, Bake-Off: The Professionals, The Great British Bake-Off: An Extra Slice and the institution that is Radio 4’s Just A Minute. Regular appearances on Mock The Week, Live At The Apollo and Eight Out Of Ten Cats have further given Allen a platform for his uniquely observational wit, making him and his famously arched eyebrow the perfect fit for compering the industry event of the year.

 Speaking about Allen’s appointment as host, BASE Chief Executive, Liz Bales, said: “Tom’s sharp wit, unique delivery and ability to command a room as lively as the BASE Awards mean that we should be in for an evening to remember as we mark our 40th anniversary in style at the legendary Roundhouse. A fresh face like Tom’s also endorses the sense of change that is felt across this year’s Awards, with a refreshed awards line-up feeding into a forward-thinking and more environmentally responsible evening of celebration and, we hope, some killer one liners! Tickets are selling fast so we would encourage colleagues to book sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment as this year’s iconic venue has a slightly reduced capacity.”

As noted, the Awards have been refreshed for 2020 to reflect the category and the eligible content, and to encourage the broadest range of submissions. Key changes include; renaming Supplier of the Year to External Team of the Year, to promote the integral part that external agencies and suppliers play in home entertainment campaigns, and reframing Campaign of the Year for Non-Theatrical to Campaign of the Year for Non-Traditional Release, widening the category to not only include Direct-to-Video titles, but also any feature released outside of a traditional theatrical window, including day and date, short windows or straight to subscription.

2020 also sees the introduction of two brand new Awards categories, allowing fuller acknowledgement of the industry’s work across original TV releases and the talent that makes it all possible. Reflecting the huge range of original TV content currently seen in the category, the Campaign of the Year for Original Series award will shine a spotlight on TV shows in their first season. Further, we are excited to add an important new category; members are now able to nominate a Category Hero, recognising standout colleagues who have gone above and beyond in championing the category in their own way, whether from a retailer or platform, in-house distribution or at an agency or supplier.

Entry forms are now available to download from the BASE website along with fully updated guidelines on the new online entry process and parameters for each category. Intention to enter forms must be submitted to BASE by close of play on Friday, 14th February and the deadline for the full submission is close of play on Friday, 28th February. Entry fee per submission is charged at £145+VAT for member companies and £175+VAT for non-member companies, apart from the Category Hero award, for which there is no charge to submit your nomination.
