Last week, it was confirmed by the Official Charts Company that Warner Bros. Discovery’s ‘Barbie’ achieved the largest digital value (Week 1) of 2023, narrowly beating ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ previous record. ‘Barbie’, a true global phenomenon since its theatrical launch in July, was released across multiple premium home formats on September 12th – with consumers able to choose across both PVOD & PEST offerings. As a result, the title saw a digital consumer spend of over £2.5m across its first week.
Commenting on its success, Ruth Sharp, VP & Head of Digital Distribution – Warner Bros. Discovery, said: “We are delighted to see Barbie’s UK success in cinemas continue with a chart topping digital release. The premium format is exciting customers and driving growth in digital home entertainment.”
